INGREDIENTS, ANIMAL CRUELTY, VEGAN & ORGANIC FAQ
Are your products tested on animals?

LYLA is strongly against animal testing and is a Cruelty Free company. No animal testing is conducted or commissioned from start to finish, or in any phase of product development. This includes our ingredient suppliers to our formulators. We have never tested any ingredient or final product on an animal in the UK or any other part of the world.
We believe it is inhumane to use animals to test the safety of products, especially since there are other satisfactory methods of evaluating product and ingredient safety.
The result of product tests on animal skin do not necessarily give an accurate indication of a possible outcome on human skin. There is no justifiable reason to continue animal testing in the name of beauty.
Our products are tested by an independent cosmetic chemist and comply with EU regulations.  If you have any questions about any of the ingredients we use please contact us.
Are your products organic?
Our products are made with all organic ingredients.
Are your products vegan?

Our products are fully vegan - no animal products are used in our formulations.
Are your products gluten free?

Our products are fully gluten free.
Where is your skin care made?

Our skin care is all handmade in the U.K under EU regulations. We do not manufacture any of our skin care abroad.
What certifications do your products hold?
We carry the following logos which we stand by.
The Vegan Society, Peta, The cruelty free paw print and the Made with Certified Organic Ingredients certification.
I'm allergic to nuts - can I use your products?

We cannot guarantee that our products are suitable for you if you have a nut allergy. Some of our products have almond oil as an ingredient [this will be listed clearly in the ingredients of the product]. For products that do not have almond oil as an ingredient, we cannot guarantee that the product is made without any contact with nuts in the formulation process.
sustainability faq
How have you committed to sustainability?

Billions of plastic razors end up in landfills each year. This includes both disposable razors, and razors with replaceable plastic blades. Our razor is entirely plastic free - this includes both the razor AND the blades, making this the first fully plastic free razor subscription in the U.K.
Our bottles are entire recyclable as are our aluminium lids [used on our body butter and exfoliating scrub]. For the rest of our products that come with a pump, the bottle is entirely recyclable and can be recycled when the bottle is empty. The pump is not recyclable therefore with our refill program you keep the pump and use it with future products you purchase from us. When you reorder the product, order the "refill option". The product is sent without the pump, and instead sent with an aluminium screw cap. You can replace the aluminium screw cap with the pump [from your first purchase], then recycle the screw cap.
Our packaging is made with FSC certified materials.
How does your bottle refill program work?

Our bottles are entirely recyclable aside from the pump. When it is time to replace your product:
  1. Keep the pump
  2. Order the "refill bottle" option
  3. The refill product comes with a [recyclable] aluminium screw cap rather than the pump.
  4. Recycle the screw cap and replace this with the pump
  5. The pump can be used with all your future bottle purchases and can be used until they stop working.

Razor FAQs
What is the LYLA razor?

The LYLA razor is a plastic free, eco friendly, cute AF alternative that is there to replace your constant flings with plastic razors and instead finally settle for LYLA - your one and only.
We are proud that LYLA's single use blade is better for your skin and reduces ingrown hairs and razor.
Traditional multiblade razors cut the hair BENEATH the skin. This leads to ingrown hairs, as well as being harsh and stripping the top layer of your skin. Try LYLA and feel the difference - you are covered by a 1 year warranty.
Is it fully plastic free?

YES. 100%, from the handle to the blades. You're welcome.
How do I use the LYLA razor?

See our how to page for the low down.
Do you offer a guarantee?

If you aren't in LOVE and fully committed to your LYLA razor, you have 60 days to return your razor. Email us on hello@mylyla.com and we will take care of it.
For 365 days after you've purchased your LYLA razor, you can take advantage of our guarantee. If there are any manufacturing defects with your LYLA razor, we will replace it with a brand spanking new LYLA razor. Yummy. Just email us on hello@mylyla.com
How is it more eco friendly?

Billions of plastic razors end up in landfills each year. This includes both disposable razors, and razors with replaceable plastic blades. Our razor is entirely plastic free - this includes both the razor AND the blades, making this the first fully plastic free razor subscription in the U.K.
How does the LYLA razor reduce ingrown hairs and razor burn?

Traditional multiblade razors cut the hair BENEATH the skin. This leads to the hair curling in on itself underneath the skin [ingrown hair] as well as the razor being harsh and stripping the top layer of your skin. No wonder you've been battling with dry irritated sore skin for years. Try LYLA and feel the difference - you are covered by a 1 year warranty.
How do i recycle the blades?

We recommend storing your blades in the white LYLA blade safe [comes free with every order of razor blades]. You can then recycle them in your local recycling centre - they go in the scrap metal container.
We also offer a free recycling program - simply mail back the razor blades to us in the blade safe and we will take care of it for you.
How often do i need to replace the blades?

We recommend replacing the blades every 5-7 shaves. And because our blades are so bloody affordable, you won't be procrastinating on replacing your blades due to them being so expensive. One of our blades is £0.50 compared with traditional razor blades that cost on average £3 each.

LYLA FAQs
What does LYLA believe in and stand for?
The name LYLA stands for: live your life authentic. Authenticity and inclusivity is central to what we believe.
We believe the world is a FABULOUS place when we celebrate people for who they truly are, instead of pushing them in to a limited version of who they should be.
We believe in spitting in the eye of slimy marketing. Your body is ALREADY beautiful, and we celebrate your CHOICE to do as you please with the body that's yours.
We believe kindness is sexy, as is caring for mother earth, furry creatures and fellow humans.
We ELLE. OH. VEE. EEE. people of all varieties and believe in offering you vegan, organic, cruelty free, sustainable products that work, wurk, and werk for prices that make your wallet happy.

What do you mean when you say you are gender inclusive? Shouldn't razors be for either "men" or "women"?
Not quite. It may be the norm for other companies to label razors as for "men" or for "women", but at LYLA we don't see the world that way.
We believe gendered marketing for products that are not inherently gendered doesn't make sense.
After studying the razor brands on the market, we observed that the razors for men and for women are pretty much the same.....aside from the fact that razors for women are usually clad in traditionally "feminine" colours such as mint green, lilac or bright pink [because god forbid a woman dares use a navy coloured razor....apparently companies believe women can't handle it]
At LYLA, we believe a razor is a razor, and hair is hair. We believe that gender based marketing is stale AF and that products should be sold on their features and benefits, as opposed to being sold on the fact that they are "made" for a particular gender.
We also find the narrative of razors being made "for men" or "for women" highly exclusionary to members of the non-binary or gender fluid community.
Therefore we do not label our razors as "for women" or "for men" as we believe that the products do the same job on males, female, non binary and essentially all gender expressions and identities.
But shouldn't women use be using "curve hugging" razors that are "built" for the curves of a woman's body?
We believe this is a statement that does not make sense. Men can have curves and women can have athletic muscular bodies.
We believe statements like this are an example of harmful gender stereotyping in marketing. We also believe statements like this are used to continue to gender products as for men and for women, and to try to justify the pink tax that is present in products sold "for women", despite the fact there is little discernible difference in the actual products sold as "for men" or "for women".
Who is the founder of LYLA?

Is it risky for a shaving brand to say that shaving is a choice, not a must do?
Here at LYLA, we lead by our vision and values. Our vision is to be part of creating a world where people feel they can bring their most authentic selves to the table. Our values are authenticity, inclusivity and choice.
Therefore, promoting the ideal that shaving is a choice is in line with the vision we want to be part of creating in the world.
